Since St. Patrick's Day is on a Friday this year, we can look ahead to a full week of events. On Saturday March 11th at Washington Grizzly Stadium in Missoula at 2pm, following the Missoula St. Patrick's Day Parade,  the Thomas Meagher Hurling Club will take on the four time Collegiate National Champion, Griz Hurling Club. The Griz have been to the NCGAA National Championships 7 times and have won four times. That is incredibly impressive for a team that is just shy of a decade old.

How Old Is Hurling?

Hurling is older than the recorded history of Ireland according to Wikipedia.

The object of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a "hurley" to hit a small ball called a "sliotar" between the opponents goal posts either over the crossbar for one point or into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. It sounds pretty easy. That is until you see it played in real life. It is not an easy game. It is a game that includes almost every aspect of every sport rolled into one. Running, tackling, sticks, balls, goals.
