Second Montana Airport Will See $10 Million for Growth
Montana is a hotspot for tourists and our population continues to grow. According to a report from Aterio.com, they are projecting we may see an increase in Montana's population by 100,000 people by 2030. That's only six years away. That means we will need to expand our capacity for travel at some of our airports.
The Department of Transportation recognizes this and has announced funding for another Montana airport that will be getting millions to expand to accommodate the number of people traveling in and out of the state. This is part of President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
According to a recent press release from the Department of Transportation, the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is going to receive $10 million for expansion. This is part of a fourth investment of nearly $1 billion, that has been used for infrastructure improvements for airports. This money will be used for "terminal reconstruction and expansion project including the checkpoint lanes, baggage claim, and approximately three gate areas to increase energy-efficiency and capacity."
The Missoula Airport got an $11 million grant in 2022 from the Airport Terminal Program, to "fund a portion of construction for new energy efficient terminal to support increased demand." The Missoula airport has one terminal completed, and construction is underway on a second terminal, which is expected to be completed in 2025.
