Big Fork, Montana Gets Even More Accolades

I’ve always known Bigfork was special. Spending time there has been a great experience, for me. Most of the time I spend there is in the fall or spring, during the "off-season". There are times where it feels that you have the entire town to yourself. But the recent news that Bigfork has been listed as one of the best mountain lake towns in the country shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

According to Thrillist.com Bigfork is on their list of the Best Mountain Lake Towns in the U.S. The only town from Montana to make the list. It’s no surprise that people are appreciating Bigfork. The town is a postcard come to life. With the jewel of Flathead Lake as its centerpiece, it’s hard to imagine a more picturesque setting. Summer days are spent lounging on beaches, waterskiing across the lake, or simply drifting along in a kayak, surrounded by mountains.

But Bigfork isn’t just about sun and water. The town has a vibrant arts scene, with galleries showcasing local talent and the Bigfork Summer Playhouse providing world-class entertainment. When the leaves start to change, there’s no better place to witness autumn, without a lot of tourists. In the winter you can also ski at either Whitefish Mountain or Blacktail Mountain in Lakeside.

With lists like this comes the inevitable worry about overcrowding. I hope Bigfork can continue to maintain what makes it special to so many people. The summer is a busy time, but, for now the off-season is still a great time to get away from the crowds and enjoy what Bigfork has to offer.
