Missoula’s Zooey Zephyr Takes Spotlight in New Yorker Magazine Documentary
The political season is in full swing. There are very important races happening not only nationally but in Montana as well. Montana has found itself in the national spotlight when it comes to politics and our elections. One particular election has gotten national attention and that is Montana's race for the U.S. Senate seat between Jon Tester and Tim Sheehy. This election may be historic.
According to the Center for Media and Democracy, which is "a nationally recognized watchdog group", this Montana election may go down as "the most expensive in U.S. history in terms of cost per vote". Montana was in the political spotlight last year as well, specifically Missoula and representative Zooey Zephyr.
Zephyr was censured and barred from the chamber of Montana's House of Representatives for comments made during the session. Zephyr was not allowed to attend or speak for the remainder of the session. If you would like to read more in-depth about what was happening at the time, you can read the story below.

Zephyr is the subject of a short New Yorker documentary directed and produced by Kimberly Reed titled "Seat 31: Zooey Zephyr." The documentary is available on the New Yorker's YouTube channel and was uploaded on October, 2. The documentary captures the events surrounding her story. Reed posted a comment on the YouTube channel that describes the documentary and "serves as a great example of how elected officials and citizens can remember how to talk to each other again."
