As far as traditions go, one of the best that Western Montana has to offer the traditional 'Santa FlyOver'. I used to take the kids out in the yard and look and listen to the skies to see Santa take flight. We used to make 'magic flying reindeer food', which was oatmeal mixed with glitter in order to attract the reindeer and make sure they could find our house.

Even though my kids are grown and we no longer make the magic mix, we will be out in our yard looking and listening for Santa when he makes his flyover. After a lot of coordination with the North Pole and Western Montana Air Traffic Control, Santa is scheduled to make his flight on Friday December 20th at 6:30 pm. That is, if they can reach their goal to help fund the tradition.

For those that would like to donate to the cause you can do that on their official website. As of this writing they are at 95% of their goal, which they call the 'Cheer O Meter'. One detail to note this year, this is an aircraft and the use of drones anywhere in the air at the time is strictly prohibited. If any drones are spotted by the pilot or co-pilot, the flight will be canceled.

Whether it’s the magic of reindeer food or simply the joy of looking to the skies, this tradition reminds us to embrace the holiday spirit and cherish the moments that bring us together. Here’s hoping the 'Cheer O Meter' reaches 100% and keeps the magic alive for another generation. For more details you can check out the Western Montana Santa Flyover Facebook page.
