A salmonella outbreak has prompted the FDA to recall cucumbers distributed by SunFed Produce, Baloian Farms, and Russ Davis Wholesale, including those sold in Montana. These cucumbers were grown in Sonora, Mexico, and distributed across 26 U.S. states, including Montana, between October 12 and November 26, 2024. They were sold in bulk or packaged under labels like "SunFed Mexico," "Pamela," or "Agrotato, S.A. de C.V."

Montana Has Reported 16 Illnesses

Montana has reported at least 16 illnesses linked to this outbreak, as updated by December 2nd, that is more than any other state. In total, 68 cases of salmonella infections have been confirmed across 19 states, leading to 18 hospitalizations. No deaths have been reported. Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, nausea, and abdominal pain, typically appearing six hours to six days after consumption. If you have any of these symptoms, contact your primary doctor.

Consumers should check for affected cucumbers, especially those labeled "SunFed Mexico" or packaged in clear bags with specific lot codes. If you have purchased these, dispose of them immediately and sanitize any surfaces they contacted. If unsure whether your cucumbers are part of the recall, contact the Baloian’s customer service desk 888-840-6642, M-F 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST. See pictures below for recalled products.
