It is back to school time in Montana. It can be an exciting time for many families. The kids heading back to the classrooms and the parents excited to have a little quiet time during the day. With the rise of social media, be cautious when sharing your back-to-school photos.

BBB Back To School Picture Tips

The Better Business Bureau has some safety reminders about posting pictures of your kids online when they are heading back to school. These may be things that you haven't thought of, or had forgotten over the summer.

  1. Don't share personal information of your child. Like their full name, or exactly which school they will be attending or even which grade. All of that information can be dangerous.
  2. Check the background of your picture. A lot of parents like to have their kids pose on their front porch. Make sure there are no address numbers in the picture, choose a generic background for the photo.
  3.  Review your privacy settings on your social media accounts. Make sure you are sharing information with only the people who you know or trust. This time of year is also a good reminder to look at your personal information and make sure phone numbers or addresses aren't available to just anyone.

You should always be aware of phony friend requests, or requests from people who you are already friends with. These could be scammers trying to get your information. There is enough happening around back to school the last thing that parents need to worry about is falling victim to scammers.
