The sound of the champagne popping and the ball dropping for a new year can only mean one thing, it's time to make your Montana camping reservations for 2025.

I feel like I am already late to the game. The good news is that not all campgrounds have their reservations open for the year yet, but you can now set whatever reminder you need to hop online and make those reservations.

Camping in Montana is one of the more popular activities, not just for residents, but for visitors as well. Last summer I spoke with a few different campers while sharing campgrounds. They all said the same thing; it's best to reserve your sites early.

Sometimes you can get lucky and find a campsite due to a cancelled. Most campgrounds also have "walk-up" campsites. They are open to whoever is the first to get there. Those go fast and can be hard to come by, especially in the peak months of the summer.

There have been many times my family has packed up to go camping and have driven around for hours trying to find a spot, only to turn around and head home because all the campgrounds were full. There have been accusations of people reserving sites without the intention of actually using them, or letting friends or family use them instead.
