Looks Like Montana’s Popularity For Relocating Is Down
It looks like Montana is no longer one of the more popular destinations for people who are looking to re-locate. According to current trends, there are few places in the west that are seeing growth. It looks like there has been a shift in where people are looking to live.
The West Saw Few Cities That Are Increasing
People may be realizing that moving to Montana isn't easy or as inexpensive as it once was. According to Pods.com, the moving company, more people are leaving the west. There are only two places in west that are still popular. Out of the top twenty cities that have seen the highest "move ins" in 2023 only two cities from the west made the list.
- Phoenix, AZ
- Boise, ID
The big shift looks to be people heading to the Carolinas, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia.
In General More People Are Moving From the West
The cities in the west that are seeing the most people move from are:
- Los Angeles, CA
- Northern California (San Francisco area)
- Stockton, Modesto, CA
- Santa Barbara, CA
- Denver, CO
- Portland, OR
- Fresno, CA
- Bakersfield, CA
There are some other interesting findings on the report. Austin, Texas is reporting "a decline in net migration for the first time in two decades". One of the reasons, is there are people who just can't afford to live there.
2024 Numbers May See This Trend Change
Moving companies and the U.S. Census will continue to track numbers where people are moving around in the country. One area that is being watched closely is the south eastern coast. The forecast could seer a possible record number of hurricanes that could hit that area this year. If that is the case, other parts of the country, including Montana could see people moving from those areas back to the west.
