At this point, we don’t know who is going to be playing in the big game this year, but we do know that people will be watching and eating.  

Montana doesn’t have a professional football team, we have a lot of fans of two teams that are still in the playoffs. The Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos both have big fan bases in Montana.  

Even though the Super Bowl isn’t an official holiday, it’s an event that usually involves eating a lot, at least around my house.

When it comes to what we eat and drink, there’s a lot of research involved. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest pizza delivery days of the year. The biggest is Halloween.

Instacart, the online grocery shopping platform, has gathered data about snack trends around the big game, and Montana, like a few other states, has seen an increase in the purchase of tortilla chips around the event.

How Montana Compares to Nearby States

Our neighbors, Wyoming and North Dakota, also increase tortilla orders around the same time. Idaho increases its queso consumption while South Dakota orders more canned diced tomatoes.

Montana orders 13% less ranch dressing than the national average around the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, South Dakota increases its ranch dressing orders by 58%.  

It makes sense that we would see an increase in tortilla chips, after all, they are so versatile that they can be added to almost anything. Now that I know what most of you are ordering for the big game, it reminds me that I have to start making my menu for the game soon.
