Being a parent can be stressful, no matter where you live. Between finances, schools, sports, activities, childcare, and simply trying to raise happy, healthy kids, the pressure can add up quickly.

Survey Insights: Parenting Pressures Across America

A new nationwide survey, from AMFM Healthcare, is taking a closer look at that pressure. Identifying ZIP codes across the country where parents say raising a family feels hardest right now. While every family's situation is different, the study found that some Montana communities have parenting pressure that appears to be especially high.

Out of 150 zip codes in the country, three of them land in Montana. Bozeman and the West End of Billings also make the list, but Missoula’s zip code has the most pressure.

Now, surveys like this are subjective. What feels stressful to one parent may not feel stressful to another. Still, when I looked at my neighborhood, I could understand why it landed on the list.

Navigating Family Life in a Challenging Environment

It's a neighborhood filled with young families and lots of kids. Parents are juggling school schedules, sports practices, activities, and everything else that comes with raising children. Add in Montana winters and the challenge of navigating steep hills when the roads get slick, and there's another layer of stress.

The survey looked at factors such as childcare costs, grocery bills, school pressures, commuting, work demands, screen-time battles, and sleep deprivation.

While I don't know if my neighborhood is truly the most stressful place in Montana to raise kids, I can certainly understand why it ranked highly in the survey. Parenting is rewarding, but it can also be exhausting.

Because if there's one thing parents everywhere can agree on, it's that the pressure is real.
