Montana may have a good view of another event coming up. The Lyrid Meteor Shower has begun and is going to peak early next week. The Lyric Meteor Shower is a sure sign that spring is here in the Northern Hemisphere.
According to Space.com the meteor shower started earlier this week and is looking to peak during the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 22, just before dawn.
For best viewing it is recommended to get away from city lights, if you can. The good news is that Montana has some of the best places to do just that.

This year's crescent moon won't rise until after 3:30 a.m., so that could mean there are some ideal conditions to view the meteors. You can expect to see between 15 to 20 meteors per hour, depending on your luck, maybe even more.
Space.com recommends using a red flashlight when star-gazing so your eyes don't lose their night vision and you have a better chance to see some of the more faint meteors.

With most nighttime sky events in Montana, what you see will be dependent on the weather. At this point the forecast calls for partly cloudy skies across Montana, according to NOAA, but that can always change.
If you are planning to try to catch the Lyrid Meteor Shower, you may want to dress for warmth and good luck with the viewing.
