New Montana Songwriters Collective Aims to Unite Artists Across the State

Montana has never been short on talented songwriters. While some musicians eventually leave for places like Nashville or Los Angeles to chase bigger opportunities, plenty of incredibly talented artists continue building careers right here in Big Sky Country. 

Now, a new group is hoping to bring those Montana songwriters together. 

Introducing the Montana Songwriters Collective

The newly formed Montana Songwriters Collective is designed to create a community for songwriters from across the state to connect, collaborate, support, and share ideas. The goal is to give artists a place to network, talk about the creative process, exchange experiences, and maybe even meet future collaborators. It’s open to songwriters across Montana of all experience levels.

A Hub for Collaboration and Creativity 

The founder of the collective is Andrea Harsell, a longtime Montana musician known for her work in folk, blues, rock, and Americana.

According to Harsell, the collective hopes to create regular opportunities for Montana songwriters to gather in person, perform, and support one another creatively. One of the first public events will feature an “In the Round” style performance at the Zootown Arts Community Center, better known as the ZACC, on June 10.

Showcasing Local Talent: The First Event

The event will showcase Harsell, Andre Floyd, Chris Pumphrey, and Lee Rizzo. The artists will perform original songs while also sharing the stories and inspiration behind their music.  

The Montana Songwriters Collective recently hosted its first gathering in Missoula, encouraging songwriters to connect with fellow musicians and share stories, ideas, and experiences.  

For songwriters interested in becoming part of the collective, Harsell says the best way to stay connected is through their Facebook and Instagram pages. They hope to have a website created soon.
