Montana Has Only One Major Coffee Chain from USA Today’s Top 10—Here’s the One We’re Craving

USA Today has done another one of their reader polls, this time looking at America's favorite coffee chains.

This is another painful reminder that Montana still doesn't have a lot of the restaurants and businesses that the rest of the country has. Of the top 10 coffee chains on USA Today's list, Montana only has one of them.

If Montana has more people now, shouldn't we also gain the fringe benefits of having more people, i.e., more places to eat/drink/shop? We've speculated about when places like In-and-Out and Buc-ee's could appear in Montana. Now, here's a request.

The Coffee Chain That Should Come to Montana

While we love to support local coffee shops in Montana, we'd like to see another one of the top chains in our state: Can we get some Caribou Coffee?

This might be the most plausible addition to Montana because they're a midwest-based chain and Montana could have locations simply because of proximity. Caribou Coffee has locations in 19 states (and 11 countries) and two of those states are North Dakota and South Dakota. Why not make it an even 20 and add one in Montana?

My preference for their coffee may be obvious by now. They may be known for their Campfire Mocha but I'm partial to the Turtle Mocha and the Mint Condition Mocha. Not too sugary, but they still have lots of flavor. They don't even have to change the cups for the holidays--it's already a caribou.

Other chains from USA Today's top 10 that would fit right in if they were in Montana:

• Dunkin' (we'd get more donuts too)
• Dutch Brothers
• Saxbys (this one has an education program that helps students become entrepreneurs)

The one chain from the list that Montana does have is Starbucks. Maybe it's time to give them some competition in Montana with another national chain. In the meantime, here are some of the best local coffee shops in Montana.
