We're already getting into frost season across the state. Some areas have already seen temperatures dip below freezing, and we're starting to see some of those early signs that winter isn't all that far away.

First Snowfall: Where Will It Happen First?
That raises an interesting question: Where in the U.S. can we expect to see the first snowfall of the season?
If you look at the lower 48, Montana is one of the places where the first snow can arrive earliest.
Parts of Montana, Idaho, eastern Washington, and Wyoming can see their first snowfall as early as August or September, depending on where you live, according to the Farmer's Almanac.
Of course, Alaska is a completely different story, but here in the lower 48, we're definitely one of the first parts of the country to start seeing those flakes.

So while the first snow of the season might get you excited for winter, don't necessarily assume it's going to lead to a huge snow year.
For now, enjoy the last few days of summer, because fall is almost officially here.
According to the Farmer's Almanac, Montana is already entering the time of year when that first snowfall can happen.
