I am sure the headline alone is going to cause the hate messages to come flooding into my inbox, but everything will be okay. It really is fine to root for the Montana State Bobcats as they continue their historic run. There are few reasons why it is ok to root for the team.

1. You are still rooting for a team from Montana. As Montana State takes on South Dakota this weekend in the FCS Semifinals, it is better to be rooting for a team from Montana than any of the Dakotas.

2. Montana State has some exceptional players, to say the least, players that hail from Missoula. RB Adam Jones is in the midst of a historic year. Defensive players JJ Dolan, Ryan Ortt, and offensive lineman Dylan Rollins, played for Missoula's Sentinel High School. Offensive Lineman Tommy Nilson played for Hellgate in Missoula.

3. It's the College Football Playoffs. FCS has had playoffs for years and it's always great to watch a game where everything is on the line. Lose and you go home.

4. It's Football! Watching a football game is always a good time. Montana loves football. We know this by the numbers of fans that turn out for our teams during the season. Whether our teams are winning or losing, we support them no matter what.

I would never suggest that Griz fans root for the Bobcats while both teams are still competing. I am not nearly that crazy. But when one team's season is over and the other team is still competing you are still rooting for a team from Montana. After all it, doesn't matter if it is Montana Football or Montana State Football, both start with the word Montana.
