The past few Halloweens there has felt like something has been missing in the scare department in Missoula. The ever popular "Field Of Screams" is back and up and running now until the end of October. The city of Missoula has been missing their chance at a fright or two the past few years.

The Missoula Haunted House is coming back to the Missoula Fairgrounds, after a three year hiatus, for Halloween season. Opening day will be Friday the 13. It will be open Fridays and Saturdays through October and on Halloween night. The house has been closed down for the past three years, due to multiple factors including Covid. The time off has given the team a chance to re-group. This year it will be a different feel than some of the haunted houses in the past.

Missoula Haunted House Has Big Changes

There are some big changes this year with the haunted house. I spoke with Richard Davenport, from Roothead Studios, about the changes. The big one is the location.

This year's going to be particular interesting, because we are in a different building. We are in the Culinary building this year. It's technically, actually more square footage than the llama barn. That was 7,000 square feet, this is 7,200 square feet. It's got two levels, the main floor, then you go upstairs and then back down the stairs.

No Specific Theme This Year

This year's house won't have a specific theme, so you are going to get a little bit of everything scary. This year's house is also going to be a little more tricky than in the past, due to a time crunch. According to Richard they will start construction this Wednesday and be ready for opening day on Friday October 13th. This is a huge undertaking, but Richard says he and his crew are up to the task.

It is a huge undertaking, and it gets a bit stressful at times, but all in all it's, you know, just really fun. Couldn't stay away. Had to come back, had to try it again... It's a different format, it's got the same spirit, but, after a three year break and we are kind of reinventing ourselves and ready to come back an be scary and have a lot of fun and enjoy the Halloween season with Missoula.

Missoula's Haunted House Won't Have Online Tickets This Year

Tickets for the event will not be available online this year, they will be available at the ticket booth at the venue on the days of the events. They will have an ATM on location and will be taking credit and debit cards.
