Major Summer Construction Projects About To Impact Missoula Traffic
Summer construction season is officially arriving in Missoula, and drivers are about to notice it in a big way.
Major Roadway Projects Ahead
The Montana Department of Transportation is preparing to begin several major roadway resurfacing projects across some of the busiest streets in town.
Reserve Street Closure Details
One major street project is scheduled to begin Monday, June 1, when part of Reserve Street will close for construction. The section of Reserve Street between 39th Street and Brooks Street is expected to be shut down, and drivers should plan for detours and alternate routes.

According to MDT, crews will be working on a total of approximately seven miles of roadway throughout Missoula. The projects are designed to extend the service life of several heavily traveled roads by resealing, paving, chip sealing, and repainting lane markings.
The roads expected to see construction activity this summer include:
- Reserve Street
- Mullan Road
- South 3rd Street
- Toole Avenue
- Broadway
- Beckwith Avenue
- Madison Street
Navigating Delays and Traffic Changes
Because these are some of Missoula’s busiest commuter routes, drivers should expect delays, slower traffic, lane restrictions, and occasional full closures depending on the stage of construction.

MDT says all of the projects are expected to be completed within a single construction season. While some work zones may allow traffic through with reduced lanes and flaggers directing vehicles, other sections could be temporarily closed entirely.
Drivers are encouraged to leave extra travel time, watch carefully for construction crews and flaggers, and stay alert while moving through work zones this summer.
