In no particular order, here are five things to know if you've never attended the Five Valley Kennel Club Dog Show, or if you're looking for a refresher.
#1 Our Local Dogs Are Super Talented
Dogs that belong to the Five Valley Kennel Club have earned some impressive accolades:
- Participation at the Westminster Dog Show this month in New York City with one dog receiving an Award of Merit
- Participation in the AKC National Championships
- Multiple dogs qualifying for the AKC Rally National Championships
- a Five Valley Kennel Club Saint Bernard holds a record for the fastest time completing the Fast Cat (Fast Coursing Ability Test) for the breed.
#2 The When. The Where.
- May 30 - June 2, 2024.
- 9:00 am - 5:00 pm each day
- Missoula County Fairgrounds
#3 It's Free. Sort of.
There's no charge to get into the event itself, but you'll need to pay for parking which costs $5.
#4 You Can Enter Your Dog in the Show
Not only can you get to know the dogs that are competing and learn more from breeders and handlers, but you can still enter your dog in the show, or have them try out dock diving.
"Any dog can come to the show Thursday - Sunday and give their dog a try at dock diving for $10 or they can register to try to get a dock diving title on their dog, " said Jann Butler, Communications Chairperson for the Five Valley Kennel Club. "Super fun event. The last time it was held in Missoula was the 2019 County Fair and it was overwhelming popular."
#5 There's a Dog Parade You Won't Want to Miss
During the show, there will be a parade of therapy dogs. "The Bitterroot and Missoula area has over 50 active therapy dog teams serving schools, hospitals, senior facilities and similar locations," Butler said. These animals work hard to support humans and if you are attending the show, this will be an opportunity to show these dogs your appreciation.
