Repeat DUI Offender Caught Swerving on Missoula Streets
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On February 21, 2026, a Missoula Police Department Officer was patrolling when he observed a maroon Jeep Cherokee aggressively accelerating from the Stephens and Mount Avenue intersection and pulling hard to the right. The Jeep did not cross the fog line, but came very close and then corrected back to the left. The officer continued to observe the Jeep performing the same hard pull to the right several more times on Stephens. Eventually, the Jeep crossed Brooks Street and parked in the CVS Pharmacy lot.
Concerned for the driver based on the driving behavior he had observed, the officer pulled into the CVS parking lot and parked near the Jeep. The officer proceeded to the Jeep to ensure the driver was okay. The driver, later identified as 33-year-old Lance Wolverine, rolled down the front driver-side window.
The officer immediately observed what appeared to be two open containers of alcohol sitting in cupholders near the center console. Wolverine had a dazed expression, watery bloodshot eyes, and spoke incoherently. The officer could also smell the odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle.

The officer asked Wolverine to turn off his vehicle by removing the keys from the ignition, not realizing at that time it was a ‘push to start’ vehicle. Wolverine appeared to be searching for his keys to remove them from the ignition. Upon realizing Wolverine’s vehicle had a push-to-start ignition, the officer found it odd that Wolverine was searching for his keys.
The officer asked Wolverine to exit the vehicle. Wolverine was unsteady on his feet and swaying back and forth. Wolverine continued staggering and struggling to maintain balance while walking to the patrol vehicle. The odor of alcohol was very apparent.
Wolverine consented to performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). Wolverine scored a 6/6 on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) Test. Wolverine was so unsteady on his feet that he could not maintain the starting position for the Walk and Turn (WAT) Test. Wolverine became agitated and refused to finish the WAT test. Wolverine was unable to perform the One Leg Stand (OLS) test.

When asked if he would consent to a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), Wolverine refused. The officer concluded that there was probable cause to arrest Wolverine for DUI. The officer observed that Wolverine has four prior DUI convictions. The officer placed Wolverine under arrest, placed him in the back of the patrol vehicle, read him the Montana Implied Consent Advisory, and requested a breath sample, but Wolverine refused.
The officer applied for and was granted a Warrant to search Wolverine’s blood. Wolverine was transported to St. Patrick Hospital, where an Emergency Department technician performed the blood draw.
Then, Wolverine was transported and remanded to the Missoula County Detention Facility. He is currently being charged with felony DUI, and his bond was set at $50,000.
