Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 7, 2025, Missoula Police Department Officers responded to the Poverello Center for a physical assault that had taken place. The reporting party had been kicked and punched in the head by an unknown white male, supposedly claiming to be a "nazi".

Upon arrival, an officer contacted the reporting party near the staff desk. The officer observed an obvious injury to the male's right eye area, with bleeding from the eyebrow area of his face. The male identified himself by name and is identified herein as John Doe.

Doe stated that he had been sitting outside the Poverello Center with a few friends when he engaged in a verbal argument with a white male with whom he did not know. Doe stated the male was able to view a tattoo of the Star of David on his forearm. This symbol is commonly associated with the Jewish culture, ethnicity, and/or religion, as well as with the nation of Israel.

The Male Confronted Doe About the Tattoo

Doe stated that the male addressed his tattoo and verbally identified himself as someone who follows and believes the teachings of the Nazi party. Doe informed the male that he identifies as a member of the Jewish community, which reportedly caused issues with the male. Both males exchanged words during their argument, which resulted in Doe requesting to see any possible Nazi related tattoos or markings the male may have imprinted on his body.

The male reportedly refused and then kicked Doe in the head while he was still seated on the ground. The male followed the kick with a few punches before Doe was able to separate himself. The male then left the scene. The officer was able to view video footage that corroborated Doe’s statements. At no time did the officer observe any obvious physical aggression from Doe.

Other officers made contact with the male south of the Citi Lodge on the "Broadway Island." The male identified himself as 29-year-old Michael Cain. The original officer responded to the location and spoke with Cain. Cain admitted to kicking and striking Doe, but alleged he did it out of self-defense, which was not consistent with the officer’s observations on the video.

Cain Said He is a Member of the "4th Reich"

Then Cain was arrested. According to court documents, while en route to the Detention Center, Cain voluntarily disclosed to the officer that he does associate with the ideas and beliefs of the Nazi party. He clarified he is a member of the “4th Reich.” Cain stated he is not racist and claimed he did not take issue with Doe being Jewish. The officer said he did add that it could potentially have been an issue if Doe had been more adamant about his own beliefs.

Court documents indicate Cain spoke at length about being a member of the 4th Reich, which he associated to being an evolution from the 3rd Reich, which was started with Adolf Hitler. The officer said Cain also stated he believes the Jews are ignorant and wrong, as they are the party responsible for the killing of Christ and eliminating his disciples.

Cain is currently being charged with felony malicious intimidation or harassment relating to civil or human rights.
