Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 8, 2026, at approximately 11:21 AM, Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of West Broadway Street and North Russell Street for a report of a male masturbating on the sidewalk in front of the car wash. The caller, S.W., reported that a homeless male was “jerking himself off” and further reported that the male was “exposing himself”.

An officer arrived on scene and located the male in front of the McDonald's at 1565 Liberty Lane. The officer approached this person and detained him in handcuffs. The suspect was later positively identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Kabanuck. While the officer was handcuffing Kabanuck, he began to repeatedly hump the air and continued to do so for the entire duration of the stop.

The officer asked Kabanuck about what he had been doing prior to being stopped, and he stated that he had been at the police station, but he was talking about the jail on Mullan. He explained that he walked from the jail to where he was stopped in front of the McDonalds which would have put him in front of the car wash.

The officer then asked Kabanuck why people were calling about seeing his penis, and while initially denying that his penis was out, he eventually claimed that he had simply been urinating. Another officer stayed with Kabanuck while the officer called S.W. and asked her to clarify what she had seen.

S.W. stated that she was “not 100% sure” if Kabanuck’s penis was out of his pants, but she stated that he was “definitely holding onto it.” She stated that Kabanuck was “gyrating” his hips while his hands were on his penis. S.W. further described that Kabanuck’s actions were “alarming to watch” and that her passenger observed the same conduct and found it equally disturbing.

The officer then transported Kabanuck to jail without further issue. While Kabanuck was being searched by a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, a small sandwich baggie containing methamphetamine was discovered in Kabanuck’s coat.
