Missoula’s Roxy Theater Announces Major Upgrades
It feels like going to the movies is making a comeback.
I hope at least.
Movies like Marty Supreme, Sinners, and One Battle After Another helped revitalize the theater experience last year. At the very least, they gave moviegoers a reason to seek out the cinema for a non-Marvel, Jurassic World, or DC movie.
If you haven't been to the movies recently, 2026 is the year to start up again, because the Roxy is making some serious upgrades.
The Roxy Theater set to upgrade its screens
The Roxy Theater emailed its members, like me, no big deal or anything, about theater renovations.
I am thrilled to announce this week we will be getting major upgrades in our beloved Theater 1," said Roxy Theater Executive Director Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson via email.
"Today we installed a brand new screen (the previous screen had been serving us since 90s!) and tomorrow [Thursday, March 12] we will begin the process of installing a new projector to enhance the experience at your community cinema!"

That sounds like a good deal for all of us moviegoers. If you can enhance the viewing experience, but keep the small-town, mom-and-pop, hometown feel to it, then sign me up.

The Roxy will remain open during the upgrades, but Theater 1 will be closed March 11 and March 12, and should be open again on Friday, March 13.
"Thank you for being a reason we are able to put so much love into this special place and we hope you will join us soon to experience a movie the way it was meant to be seen—on the big screen with others," said Ferguson.
