Meet the Griz: Griz Volleyball's Sophomore Sensation Delaney Russell

I really hope I don't jinx the Grizzly Volleyball team with this next sentence. The Grizzlies are on a 10-match winning streak, their longest since the mid-90s.

I recently caught up with Grizzly sophomore outside hitter Delaney Russell about the team's successes.

"So much fun, oh my goodness," Russell said about this season's team. "Every single match we are having such a blast, and I think in the huddle before every single game, we really focus on and preach on to how important joy is."

This team is having so much fun that they host a dance party before every match. With a team that's full of talent, I put Russell on the spot: Who is the best dancer on the squad?

"Oh gosh. You know what? Olivia Liermann [Jr outside hitter from Couer d'Alene], I think she might take the cake on that one."

Now, I put Russell in a tighter spot: Who is the worst dancer on the team?

"It's kind of an ongoing joke, and we all love her to death, but I would say Sofia Vella needs some work on her dance moves. But honestly, I'm definitely in that category as well," Russell laughed.

Fast facts with Delaney Russell

Russell's dad, Matt, is a Senior Personnel Director/Advisor to the General Manager with the Philadelphia Eagles. Matt also played three seasons in the NFL.
- When I asked Delaney what he does, she couldn't give me the title. I had to give her a hard time for not knowing what her dad does for work.
Delaney roots for the Eagles (because of her dad) and the Seahawks (because of her cousin). Plus, some love for her hometown, the Denver Broncos
Delaney's favorite Missoula restaurant is either The Depot or Zoo Thai
Delaney's favorite non-restaurant location in Missoula is the river.
