Sick Day for Griz Legend: Who Took Over the Mic?
For the first time in 28 years, Griz Football Public Address Announcer Peter Christian missed a home game at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
Why Peter Christian Missed the Game
Let's clear things up first: Peter was sick on Saturday, forcing him to miss the game, but he is doing much better now. I received several texts and questions asking, "Where is Peter?" It's all good, and he'll be back Saturday for the top-10 showdown between Montana and Idaho.
But in his absence last Saturday, Griz Football Sports Information Eric Taber attempted to fill the HUGE shoes Christian leaves in the booth.
"Thursday before I left the office, I had gotten the heads up that 'Hey, Peter's not feeling well. Who's our backup?' And we decided, OK, if something goes wrong, it's going to be me," said Taber.
"And then Friday, it was crickets until then, and then Friday night I went to the Hellgate-Sentinel football game. I'm sitting there, and I got a text and I'm like 'Oh bleep."

Taber was told he'll be the in-stadium voice for a day. Fortunately, Taber already knows all the guys' names, so that wasn't an issue. There is more than just learning names or calling out tackles, though.
"The hardest part, honestly, was, like, reading the commercials, the ads," explained Taber. "Ford, I know Ford is a game sponsor, but, like, some of these companies, I haven't really heard of before."
I told Taber that Peter was feeling better at work on Monday.
"Well, that's the best news I've heard all day. God bless him. I hope that health keeps up," joked Taber.
