It's been a busy week for last year's Montana Grizzlies defensive line. First, Alex Gubner accepted a second NFL Minicamp Invitation.

Next came the decision of Kale Edwards. The three-year defensive end entered the transfer portal last month after recording his best season at the University of Montana. Edwards racked up 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks with 2 forced fumbles in his redshirt junior season. Now Edwards is heading to Las Cruces, New Mexico to join the New Mexico State Aggies.

The Aggies finished last season 10-5 in Conference USA. New Mexico State lost the C-USA championship game against Liberty and later lost to Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl. Last season featured a marquee victory when NMSU defeated Auburn on November 18 in Alabama.

A quick look at the roster shows no kids from Montana or transfers from a Big Sky Conference school at New Mexico State. The Aggies are coached by Tony Sanchez in his first season at NMSU.

A look at the Grizzlies defensive line

Montana and new co-defensive coordinators Roger Cooper and Tim Hauck will have to replace two key contributors on the defensive line in Gubner and Edwards. To do so, the Griz wrangled Brenton Handsford, a freshman from North Carolina, and Andrehs Lehrmann, a transfer from Youngstown State, Matai Mata'afa, a transfer from Mississippi State, and Pat Hayden, a transfer from Monmouth.

Returners Garrett Hustedt, Henry Nuce and former UCLA Bruin Hayden Harris will be relied on up front this season.

Good luck to Kale. We'll have to tune into a couple of Aggies games this fall.
