From 2010 to October of 2022, Missoula Computes occupied this standalone building in Tremper Shopping Center, offering custom personal computer builds and PC repairs at Malfunction Junction. The company has been in business since 2007, but now that they've moved to their new location on Holborn Street the question is...what will become of their old building?

Missoula Computes moved to this building just off Brooks St in October.

Quint Billings from Missoula Computes explained why he moved out of the old building, which he says was one of the first the Tremper family owned of their shopping center in the 1960s:

The glass windows didn't do us much good in the winter, it wasn't very well insulated. I was spending a lot of money in heating bills. Also the roof needs to be repaired. I had a space heater in the back that ran all the time in the winter, and it got really hot in the summer.

This street view of the building is from 2008 before Computes moved in: it was a check-cashing center called B&R Check Holders.

I'm not a roofer, but a new roof never hurt anyone, right?

Billings said the carpet needs to be replaced from water damage, but the inside looks clean (as seen through one of the big glass windows)

We won't speculate on whether or not the landlord will ready the building for a new tenant or not, however this makes a new addition to the Malfunction Junction empty businesses we reported on in October. Missoula Computes moved out three days after we published THIS article.

Who Would Fit Here?

It's a wonderful location, and the building seems the appropriate size to accommodate a number of businesses:

  • marijuana dispensary
  • coffee shop (but they'd be competing with Florence Coffee and Loose Caboose right across the street)
  • EV charging station
  • BBQ to-go?
