New Skatepark Lands on Flathead Reservation
Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament just accomplished something cooler than putting out a new album. He also helped build another skatepark in Montana. This one’s right smack in the town of Pablo, deep in the Flathead Reservation.
Jeff, who comes from Montana's Hi-Line, knows all too well how important such a place can be. His Skatepark Project has generated parks in forgotten places throughout the state, and now the kids in Pablo have a new place to skate and burn off energy doing something positive.
The park is just north of the tribal college. It’s open space, big sky, and the kind of backdrop that, when you skate, you could swear feels like it’s straight out of a postcard. Smooth concrete. Real transitions. Clean rails. No gravel. No busted-up curbs or sketchy parking lots. This is the real deal.
And it didn’t arrive with some giant ribbon-cutting or a lot of press. It just opened. The photos say it all. Kids out there slicing and dicing, sun out, mountains in the back. No filters needed.
Don’t think of this park as just another collection of ramps and rails. It's about pride. It’s about offering a home for local kids, especially Native kids. Something built with care. Something fun. Something free. In a world of screens and distractions, here’s somewhere you can actually do something.
So, if you’re rolling through Pablo, pack your board. Or just stop and watch. This is what happens when music meets mission, and one Montana musician never stops giving back.
