This week PETA wheeled into Montana with their big, sad truck of plastic pigs and pre-recorded squealing.

They’ve nicknamed it the “Hell on Wheels” tour. It’s made to resemble a livestock hauler. Speakers inside blare the sound of pigs “screaming for their lives.” Supposed to have you crying into your pulled pork.

Instead? It made Montana hungry.

The truck pulled up at a local BBQ joint in Great Falls called "SMOKED." Little did they know that the locals threw a counterparty. By throwing the “Pick on PETA Party.”

And how did folks respond? By consuming a record-setting amount of smoked meat. You could probably smell freedom two blocks away.

I understand what PETA’s attempt is. But here’s the thing. I hunt. I cook. I eat wild game. I process what I kill. I respect it.

What I’m not is someone who takes dietary advice from people who’ve likely never touched a cast-iron pan.

There’s something in the water in Montana. We were raised on ranching, hunting, and real food. Not tofu shaped like bacon.

We don’t look kindly on outsiders rolling into town to shame the smell of hickory smoke.

So when the Hell on Wheels truck rolled into guilt meat-lovers into vegetarianism, Montana struck back with barbecue sauce and extra napkins.

Now, I know that this is the kind of publicity that PETA wants. I have dealt with plenty of their nonsense over my time in broadcasting. They know that rage bait works and gets their message across. But we don't deal with bullies in Montana. Drama just makes us hungry for more BBQ.
