Do you ever get the sense that someone you know may just be a bit too strange? Maybe it’s that neighbor who never seems to blink or the guy at the bar who always knows exactly what you’re going to say. Well, at least one professor at Montana Tech says there could be a reason for that.  Maybe they are aliens.

Dr. Michael P. Masters, an anthropology professor at Montana Tech, has gained attention for a theory that reads like something out of a science-fiction movie. He claims UFOs aren’t necessarily commanded by little green men from a far-off galaxy. Nope. They could be time machines, and those “aliens” could be human beings from even further in the future coming to study us like we’re part of some historical enactment.

Yeah, pause to consider that for a moment....

Now, it just got even wilder. A paper recently co-authored by Dr. Masters and researchers at Harvard examines what they are calling the "cryptoterrestrial hypothesis."

According to The Hill

Here are the theories proposed in the paper:

  • A “remnant form” of ancient civilization remains on Earth

  • An intelligent species evolved separately from humans and now stays hidden

  • Cryptoterrestrials traveled from another time period or planet

  • The unidentified creatures are of supernatural origin, likened to “earthbound angels”

Essentially, this theory is the idea that higher beings already live among us but are masters of stealth. Just like in the movie Men in Black. Perhaps that awkward coworker who makes no eye contact isn’t just socially awkward.

And before you dismiss this as utter nonsense, remember that the U.S. government has spent millions delving into UFOs. Even NASA is beginning to take these matters seriously. Now, Montana has plenty of its own weird sightings. Just ask anyone who has spent time around Flathead Lake or any of our volcanic hotspots. If aliens were hiding out somewhere, Big Sky Country would be a decent bet.

LOOK: The states with the most UFO sightings

For each state, we’ve also included details of famous UFO sightings in that state. Of note is that almost three-quarters of all UFO sighting reports in the United States occur between 4 p.m. and midnight, and tend to peak between 9 and 10 p.m. Food for thought next time you're out scoping for alien life. Keep reading to see which states have had the most UFO sightings.
