I stopped at a couple of In-N-Out Burger spots during a recent road trip from Montana down to Las Vegas. Nothing hits quite like a Double Double Animal Style after hours in the car, and I’ll say that the Neapolitan shake is a road trip cheat code. I’ve eaten my fair share of gas station burritos, and I’m always willing to take the extra 20 minutes off the highway for this stop.

In-N-Out Expands North

We got news from our neighbors in Ridgefield, Washington. In-N-Out just opened its first store in the state, right off I-5. Lines already snake around the block. For years, the only way Seattle folks could get their fix was a 200-mile road trip south, but now the burger pilgrimage just got a little closer.

Add that to the Idaho spot in Meridian, and suddenly, we’ve got two states near Montana with In-N-Out Burger's fresh beef and fries on the menu. For a chain that refuses to serve frozen patties or ship in old lettuce, distribution is inching closer to Big Sky Country.

Could Montana Be Next?

This is just speculation on my part, but if In-N-Out has the supply chain to serve Washington and Idaho, it’s not hard to see Montana as the next stop. Picture making a pit stop off Reserve Street in Missoula for Animal Style fries, or grabbing a Double Double on the way to a Griz game. It may sound crazy now, but so did the idea of Costco selling gas around town not too long ago.

Not Just California Anymore

Sure, In-N-Out is California-born. But the company has already moved its headquarters out of California. And let’s be real, around here that counts. Montanans roll their eyes at yet another California transplant raising housing costs. But burgers? Burgers are universal. In-N-Out doesn’t bring HOA fees; it brings drive-thru lines and secret menu orders. That’s something we could probably let slide.

Montana, Keep Your Fingers Crossed

For now, In-N-Out says it’s only going as far as Ridgefield. But with Washington and Idaho covered, we might just be one distribution center away from Montana getting a taste. Until then, I’ll keep making those road trip stops, shake in one hand, steering wheel in the other.
