Using technology as a tool is something that I do every day as a part of my job. Most of the time I don't realize how much I rely on technology, until I am in a position where I can't access it. That's what happened to me last weekend, and for me, it was a much better situation than I thought it would be.

"Digital Detox" in Montana

It wasn't until I didn't have any access to the internet, or a cell phone that I realized I needed to absorb my surroundings and be present in the moment. I event went a few days without playing the radio, or any music. If you know me, you know how difficult that can be. I am always surrounded by some form of music. I didn't know it at the time, but I needed a little bit of a "digital detox".

Montana Has Great Places to Unplug

Montana is an outstanding place to disconnect from all things digital when you want to. There is one place, in particular, that has made a list of some of the best places in the country to experience a "digital detox". According to Love Exploring, Yellowstone National Park is one of the best places to get away from all things digital. This was rated as one of the best places back in 2018. I am sure things have changed since then with cell service expansion.

There are a few other places in Montana where you can find some time to "digital detox". If you travel up the Seeley-Swan valley you will find other areas that have no internet or cell service. Holland Lake for example.

It was worth it to put away the devices for a while. We were able to experience some breathtaking views of Montana. We also hiked, swam and spent a lot of time trying to avoid the mosquitoes this time of year. It didn't last nearly as long as I would have liked, but for a brief time my face wasn't in front a screen and that was a good thing.
