This Dog-Friendly Montana Lodge Is a Nordic Skiing Dream
One of the many things I love about Montana is discovering something new, and when it turns out to be a great time, that's a bonus. It’s a nice reminder about why Montana is so special.
Where Is Dog Creek Lodge Located?
If you haven’t heard about Dog Creek Lodge in Olney, Montana, this may be a place you want to check out. If you like Nordic skiing or have a dog, then this place should be right up your alley.
Nordic Ski Trails and Winter Activities
We were recently looking for a new place to cross-country ski, and came across this place, just north of Whitefish. They have 80 acres with 27 kilometers of Nordic ski trails, which they groom daily during the season. They offer Nordic skis, snowshoes, and fat-tire bike rentals.
Lodging Options at Dog Creek Lodge
Dog Creek Lodge also has rooms for rent. There are 10 queen bedrooms in one of the lodges, and the main lodge sleeps 12. They are available for weddings, family reunions, corporate getaways, and more.
The Dog Creek Lodge was new to us, so I spoke with the manager, Georgia, about the place. They’ve been a Nordic lodge for around six years. They are open all year round. In the winter, they focus on Nordic skiing and ice fishing. In the summer, there’s Dog Lake on the property for paddleboarding and canoeing. No motorboats are allowed on the lake.

The restaurant and bar offer drinks and house-made-food. Their pizzas feature homemade dough and sauce. After spending a couple of hours skiing the trails, a bowl of their homemade clam chowder hit the spot; it was very good. They also offer a ground chicken or beef patty for your dog.
We had the chance to ski across the frozen Dog Lake, and it was just us, a few people ice fishing, and some dogs having fun. It was quiet, peaceful, and fun.

Dog Creek Lodge has fully embraced the “dog” part of their name. They are a very dog-friendly lodge. Not only do they provide menu options for your four-legged friends, but they also have Mutt-Mitt bags along the trails.
We weren’t expecting to find someplace new when we wanted to go cross-country skiing, but we are sure glad we did, and we’ll probably be back.
