Montana’s Leader for Cheap Back-to-School Gear
Montana’s universities are preparing for the upcoming school year. The students will be moving into campus over the next few weeks. That means that the rest of Montana schools will be following behind shortly.
There are a lot of traditions when it comes to kids going back to school. One of them is shopping.
When I was a kid, I had no idea what was needed for school until the first day of class. We would go home with our list of supplies for the year. For me, that meant that I would go through my older siblings' leftovers to find some of what I needed. We had a compass that was passed down for generations.
Montana’s Back-to-School Traditions
It was also the time of the year when we would have to use old paper shopping bags to cover our own books. For kids these days, a lot of them have no idea what that even means.

These days you can get the list of needed school supplies at the store way ahead of time. Most schools expect the kids to be prepared by the first day of class.

Back to school shopping isn’t a cheap endeavor these days. Especially if you have more than one child in school.
Why Walmart Tops the List
If you are looking to save some money on your back to school shopping in Montana, Walmart is the cheapest overall store for school supplies in Montana. Followed closely by Target, Smith's Food and Drug, Office Depot and Staples. Walmart is also the cheapest overall across the country.
According to Cash Net USA, they compared prices across the country and found that Walmart is the cheapest option. The most expensive options are grocery stores. Both Albertsons and Safeway ended up on the bottom of the affordable list.
Good luck to all the kids heading back to school this fall and to all the parents who are also trying to make it through another school year.
