Montana’s Stunning Sunsets Didn’t Make the Cut—But Here’s Why That’s a Good Thing

Throughout the year I have a tendency to see more sunrises than I do sunsets. With my line of work it is rare that I miss a sunrise, but for most of the summer months I am in bed long before the sun starts to set.

There have been some memorable sunsets in my life. I have had the luxury of being able to watch the sun set in some amazing places around the world. For me personally there is something magical about watching the sun set in Montana.

Whether you are in the mountains or the plains watching the sun set in Big Sky Country is something special, but it doesn't make the list of some of the best sunsets in the world.

All Clear Insurance has determined the best places to take in a sunset on the planet. No spot in Montana made the list, but one of our neighbors made the list.

The rankings are based on scientific factors like cloud cover, calm to moderate winds, minimal precipitation, and moderate levels of humidity. All of those factors can make a sky light up.

The closest place to Montana to see some of the best sunsets on the planet is Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. They rank fifth on the list.

The best place on the planet, according to this ranking is Cappadocia, Nevşehir, Turkey. Other places in the U.S. that made the list are Waikiki Beach and Haleakalā Summit in Hawaii, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Big Sur in California, and Joshua Tree National Park in California.

Some of the places on the list are very specific spots, not just a city. For example, if you are going to go to Paris, one of the best places is the Trocadéro Gardens.

In my opinion watching a sunset on Flathead Lake or in Glacier National Park can rival any of these places. I guess the good news is that, with Montana being left off the list, people will head to Wyoming for sunsets and we can enjoy ours in peace.
